1916년 9월4일 평북 선천군 출생 통일교회 1호 목사: 1954년 아버님께서 직접 목사안수를 해주심. 이요한 목사님은 통일교 목회자의 상징이요, 대표자요, 표상이라 할 만한 어르신이시다. 일제의 한국 식민통치가 점점 강화되면서 많은 조선인들이 조국을 떠나 만주(중국의 동북3성)으로 이주하였다. 목사님이 7살 되던해 1923년, 가족이 중국 요녕성 심양으로 이주했다. 1939년 일본으로 유학을 떠나기 까지 16년간 중국에 살며, 생업을 도우며 신앙생활에 열심을 다하였다. 성서 연구, 신학공부, 설교와 전도는 그의 천직이었다. 교회에 목사가 없을 때는 자연스레 대신 설교를 하고 교인들에게 감명을 주었다. 18세 때였다. 어는 순간에는 설교하는 것이 당연한 자신의 모습이라 생각되고 자연스레 받아들였다. 생계를 돕기위해 세상 일을 할 때도 성경공부와 하나님을 모시는 종적 신앙을 지켰다. 하나님이 동행하는 생활이었다. 목사님의 청
